ATV's reported stolen

Friday, May 30, 2008

A Bainbridge resident maintains there has been a rash of All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) thefts in northern Putnam County.

In an e-mail to the BannerGraphic, Dan Gross said he has had three ATV's stolen in three months. Gross said the thieves are bold because they stole two that were chained together, pushing them across Main Street in Bainbridge.

"They pushed them across Main Street and another street under a street light and loaded them on a trailer and no one saw a thing," Gross wrote.

Bainbridge Town Marshal Rodney Finwick said, "Only two have been reported but these thefts are still under investigation at this time."

There have also been reports from the Putnam County Sheriff's Department of an additional theft of an ATV east of Fincastle.

Detective Mike Biggs said, "There is no evidence that these two separate instances are related at this time."

Both Biggs and Finwick declined further comment on the progress of the investigation.

  • Can you explain how you could say someone pushed them across Main Street, under a light and loaded them, if no one "saw a thing"?
