Farmers' market begins Saturday

Friday, June 6, 2008

Main Street Greencastle's Downtown Farmers market will open Saturday at 8 a.m. on the north and east sides of the courthouse square. It will remain open until noon.

The market is open to the public and anyone wishing to be a vendor with Hoosier homegrown, home sewn or homemade goods should contact Main Street Greencastle's Market Master Bob Zaring at (765) 720-0690 or (765) 246-6903, Susan Thomas at (765) 720-0098 or e-mail grencastlefarmersmarket@broadreach.net.

Upon completion of a vendor application and a review of the market guidelines, vendors will be given a space approximately 10 feet by 20 feet. Vendors must provide their own tables and tents.

The market is meant to promote local farmers and residents who have fresh produce, plants or other products from home. It is a place where friends and neighbors can congregate, buy healthy foods, patronize local businesses and enjoy the historic downtown.

The types of goods the market offers over the summer include fresh produce, herbs, flowers, trees, shrubs, syrups, honey, meats, eggs, breads, grains, art, crafts, wool products and much more.

There will be musical entertainment on the north side courthouse stage, and some local downtown eateries will be serving breakfast items.
