Man accused of child molesting falls ill at hearing

Friday, June 13, 2008
Terrell Britton, an alleged child molester, was being carried away by medics on the north side of the Putnam County Courthouse around 1:45 p.m. Thursday. Britton had an apparent seizure on his way to his trial hearing.

Terrell Britton, 52, Greencastle, was on his way to his initial hearing Thursday afternoon when he suffered a seizure on the courthouse steps.

Britton is charged with 14 counts of child molestation. He was arrested Monday on these charges, but did not have a court date until today.

On his way up the north steps, Britton was struggling and took numerous breaks. When he reached the landing before the actual courthouse steps, he collapsed and began to seize. Two jail officers and one Greencastle Police Officer came to the aid of Britton before Operation Life pulled up and transported him from the scene.

Britton will stand trial as soon as Friday morning, but possibly not until Monday depending on the diagnoses by the doctors.

  • Was it a slow day in the newsroom? I don't care about this man falling ill. Let me know when he is convicted and put away.

  • Imagine that!

  • ladycoltsfan, in all fairness, when a man in a bright orange suit that ordinarily catches the eye, is on the ground with on-lookers gawking on the steps of the courthouse, it raises some eyebrows. That eyebrow raise is what creates news because people want to know what was going on. Had he not seized on the steps, he would've stood an initial hearing in which a story would've come out about that, as it will Monday when he most likely goes in front of the judge.

  • who cares if he seized it should have been for good. child molesters should be gone anyway

  • I agree with Kevin, it was a story that was being covered regardless of his suspected seizure prior to his court date. Give, the reporters a break already.

  • Give the Banner a break, if they hadnt reported it, you would complain because you wanted to know. Hopefully he hit his head a few times on the way down.

  • I would guess that the reality of his actions set in. Then the reality of the consequences for his actions set in. If guilty, he has another reality to face. The stress he must face still may not pay for the crimes committed. Please keep him in confinement.

  • The sad thing is this guy will receive the best care, go to the front of the line, and all at our expence, meanwhile we have familes in Putnam County who cannot afford to vist a Doctor or Emergency Room, seems totally out of wack to me.

  • He's shouldn't even be allowed to smell fresh air again. I know this man personally and would have never thought, but it goes to show you ,you can't trust anyone. He will get whats coming to him in the days to come no dought about that. What about the Victims he's hurt? The young children that he has put in harms way. They have the rest of their LIVES to deal with this and he has days. I hope the seizures continue, I hope he goes to prison for life. I hope I'm called to trial to testify against this person and face his sibling. As a matter of fact I would testify if I knew it would put him n prison for LIFE. He has no right. He has ruint lives, young lives. He is an OLD and Nasty Nasty person. IT SHAMES ME TO HAVE KNOWN THIS PERSON........

  • If it's a real seizure, then so be it. But if it was fake, it just shows you how much of a coward he is for not being able to take the heat in a courtroom. But if they don't react correctly to his seizure, it opens up the chance of another lawsuit costing the taxpayers, and a much more expensive one at that.

  • Too bad about the "seizure"...too bad it wasn't something real like a massive CVA that left him unable to control his bodily functions. (Yes...I have named myself judge and jury for this person)

  • well, I too know this man. I don't believe he is guilty of the accusations leveled at him. First and foremost, he is innocent until proven guilty- we are in America, after all. Number two, I have known him 30yrs and he is one of the kindest, most gentle souls I have ever known. Now I know there is a knee-jerk reaction to these kind of charges and we all want justice for victims of those horrible crimes -BUT- let the man have a trial, face the teenagers who are accusing him in closed court(identity protected)and see who is truly guilty of a crime. If ya knew the whole story, it would blow your hair back.

  • Do Not assume a person guilty just because they were accused. Had the exact same situation happen to our family. Ruined a man's good name, reputation gone. All for an angry vindictive teenager who after two years admitted to it all being a lie. Nothing done to them, no retraction in any paper or television. We MUST assume his innocence till PROVEN guilty. And if he is, then by all means, punishment to the full extent of the law.

  • I hope his sister still stands by him when he has to admit in front of a court room full of people what he did and all the other sick, perverted and nasty things he's done. As for this page I'm finished talking about it and waiting for trial. I will be there and can't wait to hear how many years he will recieve. All of you that thinks he's an innocent man, let me know how you feel after it's all said and done. For the person UPSTART if you've known this man for 30 years,

Well then BLONDE, it will blow your hair back.....When you find out the whole story...The Truth and nothing BUT!

    The End

    Period!!

  • It's funny, when people commit horrible crimes....someone knew them when and they just aren't capable of such.

Sorry to say, I don't care how well you know a person, even a mother can be wrong about her child. I am sure that at some point in their lives to hide crimes they are going to look like normal people to try and get along. They wouldn't have any friends if most people knew the truth about them. Not saying he's guily, not saying he's innocent, but just because you know someone for thirty years, doesn't mean he isn't sick.

  • Like I said, we live in America and are innocent until proven guilty. I haven't spoken with Terry since he was arrested but have been in contact with his family. He has not admitted guilt and is entitled to a trial. But it seems that he has already lost in the court of public opinion according to some of these comments.

-- Posted by upstart on Fri, Jun 20, 2008, at 7:26 PM
  • Plus to the interested, I am not BLONDE. And yes, I will stand beside his sister in court when the verdict is read. Now, I am not arguing the facts of this case in this forum. But where I come from, you stand behind your family and friends when they are in trouble. And they will have to prove it for me to believe it.

-- Posted by upstart on Fri, Jun 20, 2008, at 7:42 PM
  • Just to let you know that when he was in dire need of help his Sister turned him out because it was causing to much problems in her home and dumped him off on someone else after bringing him here from Florida. Wonder why she done that?

-- Posted by sadandmad on Sat, Jun 21, 2008, at 9:23 AM
  • I am not going into the personal lives of the family of Terry and not into the personal lives of the alleged victims and their family. Either you have a problem with the whole family and are trying to air all of their personal business in public, or you are trying to slam anyone who may come to his side. Be careful, you know what they say about people who live in glass houses. And a sword has two edges and can cut both ways.
