DePauw catcher competes against USA national team

ST. LOUIS -- DePauw All-American catcher Rachel Gill competed Thursday for the St. Louis All-Stars as they faced the USA Softball Women's National team during its 2008 KFC Bound 4 Beijing Tour.

Team USA won by a 6-0 score and improved to 44-1 in front of 3,154 spectators at ABC Park.

Gill, who just completed her junior year at DePauw, caught Southeast Missouri pitcher Elaine Fisher for two innings and recorded a putout on a strikeout.

She also had one plate appearance and struck out against University of Tennessee's Monica Abbott who improved to 11-0 on the tour with a two-hitter.

A second team All-America selection this season, Gill earned all-region and all-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference honors for a third straight year after leading 40-4 DePauw to its first SCAC title and its second straight NCAA Division III appearance.

Gill paced DePauw with a .408 batting average, 51 hits, 11 doubles, six sacrifice flies and shared the team lead with 36 runs scored. She was second with 41 RBI and 11 sacrifice bunts and committed just one error behind the plate in 334 chances for a .997 fielding percentage.
