Local players to take part in all-star game

TERRE HAUTE -- On Saturday, more than 80 football players from around the Wabash Valley will converge on Memorial Stadium at Indiana State for the fourth annual Wabash Valley Football Coaches Association All-Star Game. The game features the best football players from the class of 2008 from around the area.

Fourteen of the players will be in the game representing the schools of Putnam County.

North Putnam seniors will play for the north all-star team and lead the county with five selections. Representing the Cougars will be Kyle Rooker, J.T. Francies, Adam Vondersaar, Austin Malayer and David Church.

Additionally, new Cougar coach Greg Barrett, will be an assistant coach for the north team. He will spend the day as an assistant to brother Chris, whom he has assisted at Terre Haute North for the past several seasons. Greg Barrett is also the founder and president of the Wabash Valley Football Coaches Association.

The other three Putnam County schools will have representatives on the south team. South Putnam has four players in Josh Sanders, Brad Bunten, Ben Parker and Jacob Wise. Cloverdale is represented by Aaron Dayhuff, Zach McCallie and Allen Kincaid. Rickey Robinson and Blake Robinson will play on the team for Greencastle.

Tiger Cub head coach Mike Meyer and Clover assistant coach Jeff Gibboney will both be on the south staff.

The game takes place at Memorial Stadium at 7 p.m. Saturday.
