End of summer luau planned in Russellville

A special invitation has been to issued to the public to join the kids from Summer Fun, a Friends of the Park program, at an End of Summer Luau August 9 at the Russellville Community Park.

Bring your family and invite your friends to this drug and alcohol free event. There will be tropical luau foods, music, leis and limbo for the young and young at heart.

Bring a covered dish, chips or dessert to the Tiki Hut where Friends of the Park will be grilling hamburgers and hotdogs.

The event will be from 5-9 p.m. at the park located on Harrison Street. Come dressed for a luau or wear casual clothes and help say goodbye to summer.

Free will donations will be accepted to help continue the summer fun in the Sun Programs and other events for 2009.

The mission of the program is to help promote tourism to Russellville, Roachdale and Bainbridge through festivals and events. They also provide summer programs that promote fun, fitness, fellowship and community involvement. And, they support the National Red Ribbon Week by providing information on prevention, intervention and education to the children and the community.

Friends of the Park will also be selling the cookbook compiled from recipes from local community members and children. The books are $5 and the money raised from the sale help fund the 2009 summer program.
