Chamber thanks community for help

Tuesday, July 29, 2008

To the Editor:

On behalf of the Greater Greencastle Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, I would like to take the opportunity to thank all of the wonderful volunteers and businesses that assisted in July 19's very successful Chamber Clean-up Day.

We were so pleased with the response and turnout that we received. We had over 60 volunteers show-up for this morning of beautification. It started at 7 a.m. with the Greencastle Stars 4-H Club cleaning up the main parade route, and then as they were finishing up the rest of us started at 9 a.m. cleaning up the additional areas of Wood Street, the downtown square, one block off the square each direction, South Jackson Street from Washington Street to Sunset Drive, Bloomington Street from Veteran's Memorial Highway to the stoplight at Washington Street, and Shadowlawn from College Avenue to Fawn View Lane.

In a short amount of time, everyone worked together to make the community look much more inviting for both its citizens and its guests.

The chamber would like to thank the city of Greencastle for providing the trash bags, gloves and use of the City Hall Parking lot, Wal-Mart Super Center for donating breakfast for our volunteers, and to Refuse Handling Services for donating the dumpsters to collect all the trash we picked up during the morning.

This was truly a community effort and we are truly grateful for everyone coming together and making it such a success.

We will be doing it again next year and based on the participation of this first year, we hope to expand our clean-up areas and make an even bigger impact on Greencastle!

Thanks again to all of you who volunteered your time and efforts to making this community even better!
