Car snaps pole on U.S. 231, road closed

Thursday, July 31, 2008

U.S. 231 between Greencastle and U.S. 40 was shut down for several hours early this morning for a car that hit a power pole.

Putnam County Sheriff's Deputy Tom Helmer told the Banner Graphic that Teresa Osborn, of Brazil, was driving at around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday when one of the tires on her vehicle blew out, causing her to lose control and careen off the roadway. The power pole, located just north of Plessinger's Body Shop, was snapped in half and power lines covered all lanes of U.S. 231.

Fortunately, Osborn was not injured in the accident, Helmer said.

Power crews had to shut off power to the surrounding area while they replaced the pole. The road was supposed to be reopened at around 3 a.m.

  • Were there the new NASCAR tires on her car? They only last about 20 miles or so ....
