Jazz music to benefit youth group

Tuesday, August 12, 2008

The annual "Afternoon of Jazz" to benefit the Family Youth and Community Development Program in Greencastle's South End is set for Sunday, Aug. 31 at the FYCDP community center, 605 Crown St, across from Ridpath School.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for students and senior citizens. Children age 12 and younger are admitted free.

Musical performances will be by Tad Robinson, Randy Salman, Sandy Williams and others. Barbecue rib and chicken dinners, and homemade desserts will be sold during the jazz fest.

For tickets or more information, contact Charles Miles at 653-9503 or Joe Miles at 653-6325. The event raises funds to support activities and programs the FYCDP Center provides to the youth, families and senior citizens living in the South End Community.

Thanks to the support of the Greencastle community, last year's jazz festival was a great success. More than 400 people gathered in the Center's spacious backyard for an afternoon and evening of live jazz, barbeque dinners and desserts baked by our senior citizens and a raffle. It was a homecoming for many former residents of the South End and one of the largest, most successful inter-racial social gatherings in Greencastle. The day provided a wonderful atmosphere for all ages. Sponsorships will also be accepted.

  • Nice article, just one problem with it though. What time does it start and how long does it last?
