Clovers drops contest to Cascade

Friday, August 22, 2008

CLOVERDALE -- The Cloverdale volleyball team opened its season with a WCC loss to Cascade Thursday night, 25-18, 25-20 and 25-21.

For Clover coach Kathy Moore, it was a night in which the Clovers (0-1) showed some promise but also lacked consistency.

"We played well at times but had a lot of unforced errors," she said. "We have a lot to work on both defensively and offensively. It was our first match and we have some things to work out but I feel this group of players will work hard to improve."

Kayla Shepherd led the Clover scoring with seven points and three aces.

Up front, Kristin McCammon led the attack with four kills.

Defensively, Elizabeth Cheatham had 13 blocks and six stuffs, while Allie Franklin led the way with five digs.

While Moore knew her team had its struggles, she also tipped her hat to the Cadets.

"I have to give Cascade a lot of credit for their great serving tonight," Moore said.

The Clover JV team lost in two games by the scores of 25-14 and 25-18.

Cloverdale visits South Vermillion at 5:30 p.m. Monday.
