Greencastle volleyball falls to Sparkplugs

Monday, September 1, 2008

SPEEDWAY -- The early-season struggles of the Greencastle volleyball team continued Saturday, as the Lady Tiger Cubs fell to Speedway 25-16, 25-13 and 25-7.

Kayla Nobles led the Tiger Cub servers, going 12-of-14 on serves with a pair of aces.

At the net, Chelsea Samuels led the way with three kills. Mallory Miller had six assists.

Defensively, Nobles led with 12 digs, while Samuels had nine blocks and a pair of stuffs.

While the results haven't been there for the Tiger Cubs (0-4, 0-1 WCC) early in the season, Coach Trish Lowe remains confident in her team and its ability to put things together by season's end.

"We have seen the potential just lurking beneath the surface," Lowe said. "This team has the ability to become a very good team. This was possibly the best team we have seen this year and we played with them for one game.

"We still lack the ability to play consistently. I have faith that this team will be winners," she added.

The JV lost as well, 25-17 and 25-14, moving its record to 0-4.

Greencastle visits South Vermillion at 6 p.m. today.
