CMS cross country opens season

CLOVERDALE -- The Cloverdale Middle School cross country team opened the 2008 campaign Tuesday night, hosting a five-way meet with Martinsville, Eminence, Lighthouse Christian and Monrovia.

All five teams struggled through the two-mile course in the heat and humidity. At meet's end, the Clover girls finished third behind Lighthouse Christian and Martinsville. The CMS boys were fourth to Eminence, Martinsville and Lighthouse Christian.

Bailey Stevens led the Lady Clovers, finishing second in a time of 13:46. Sydney Shrum placed 14th with a time of 15:46, while Claudia Monnet was just behind in 15th with a time of 15:47.

For the boys', Ethan Manners led with fourth-place finish in a time of 11:56. Bret Brumfield was sixth in 12:27.
