Wednesday, September 3, 2008

CLINTON -- The Greencastle volleyball team picked up its first win of the season Tuesday evening, defeating South Vermillion in five games, 25-17, 25-23, 21-25, 22-25, 15-13. The win improved the Tiger Cubs' record to 1-5, and displayed the improvement Coach Trish Lowe has been seeing over the course of the young season,

"We win!" Lowe said. "We had to dig down deep but we finally pulled out winners. I am very proud of our sophomores. They really stepped it up tonight."

Freshman Jessie Bennett also came through big for the Tiger Cubs, moving up from JV to go 12-for-13 on serves with 11 points and an impressive six aces.

"Jessie Bennett came in and gave us some great serving," Lowe said.

Mallory Miller led the service game, going 24-for-25 with 16 points. Bennett's six aces led GHS.

At the net, Braden Amis had 15 kills, and Miller collected 30 assists.

Defensively, Brooke Lewis had 43 digs, and Brooke Buckner had three blocks.

"We are on the right track," Lowe said of the victory.

The Tiger Cub JV lost to the Wildcats 25-15, 16-25, 15-14, falling to 0-6.
