CLOVERDALE -- Years of playing the lottery finally paid off for Cloverdale resident Timothy Callahan.

Big time.

Callahan won $50,000 Sunday on a Hoosier Lottery Golden Palace scratch-off ticket.

"I've been playing the Hoosier Lottery since day one," Callahan said. "I love it."

Callahan kept the happy news close to the vest for a while, not sharing it with his wife until two hours after he knew he was a winner.

"She was sort of mad at me," he said. "But then she was happy for me."

Callahan always checks the Hoosier Lottery Web site to see how many jackpots are left on each game. He kept seeing that several jackpots were left on Golden Palace, so he kept buying those scratch-off tickets.

He purchased his winning ticket from Cloverdale Travel Plaza at 1032 N. Main Street in Cloverdale.

"I was happy," he said. "I couldn't believe I won that much."

Callahan plans to put his winnings in the bank and maybe do something fun at a later date.
