George Earl Knauer Jr., 84, of Greencastle, died on Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2008.
He was born on Dec. 30, 1923 in Monroe Township, southwest of Bainbridge, to George Earl and Nellie Hillis Knauer. He was a graduate of Greencastle High School, Class of 1942, and attended DePauw University and Canterbury College where he graduated in 1948. He later attended graduate school at Indiana State University.
George was a former employee of the Silver Burdett Publishing Company and Time Life Books of Indianapolis. He had also worked on the family farm near Greencastle.
His parents and three sisters, Louise Knauer, Helen Knauer Tower and Elisabeth Knauer Smith, preceded him in death.
Survivors include a sister, Vera May Farber and husband Bob, of Greencastle, and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Sept. 12 at 2 p.m. at Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home, Greencastle, with Pastor Alan Small officiating. Interment will follow at Brick Chapel Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Friday one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.
