Tiger Cubs pull out win over Vikings

It was a good night for Greencastle (3-14, 0-2 WCC) volleyball. The GHS varsity squad defeated the Vikings in five games, winning 25-20, 22-25, 15-25, 25-14 and 15-11. The junior varsity also won in two games 25-23 and 25-22.

"We finally pulled out all stops to come up with a win," GHS coach Trish Lowe said. "I am sure proud of the effort the team gave tonight."

It's been a tough season for the Tiger Cubs, but on Thursday they were able to come together behind some big performances.

Jordyn Lewis was one of those big performers as she recorded 20 digs, three attacks, four kills; one aces and was 15-of-16 serving for eight points. Brooke Lewis also had a nice game with 25 digs, 17 attacks, seven kills and three blocks. She was also a force serving, recording six aces and eight points.

Kayla Nobles contributed 18 digs, 19 attacks, eight kills, three aces, going 20-of-21 for 12 points. Mallory Miller added 13 digs, 23 assists, 11 blocks, one stuff block and one kill. She also was 14-of-14 serving with five points. Freshman Jessie Bennett came up big with eight digs, 10 attacks, five kills, one ace, five blocks, one stuff block and six points.

Braden Amis added 17 attacks, 11 blocks, 17 attacks, five digs, one stuff and seven points for the Tiger Cubs.

After winning the first game, Greencastle dropped the next two. They rallied to take the fourth game and then outlasted the Vikings in game five to grab the win.

"Things didn't always go our way, but we just kept holding on and pushing toward the light," Lowe said.

Greencastle won the junior varsity game as well, winning 25-23 and 25-22, making their record 2-12 for the season.

Greencastle will host Terre Haute North at 6 p.m. Monday
