DPU women's soccer in action

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- DePauw women's soccer held a 2-1 first-half lead, but host Birmingham-Southern knotted the score midway through the second half as the teams battled to a 2-2 tie Sunday. The Tigers are now 3-5-2, while the Panthers are 4-4-2.

Searena Murphy gave the hosts a 1-0 lead just 42 seconds into the contest before Jacki Ponder tied the game at 14:44. Katy Phillips gave the Tigers a 2-1 lead at 18:28 and Alicia Plotky forced the overtime at 64:54 with an assist from Emmy Hollis.

The Panthers outshot the Tigers 31-7 and held a 6-2 edge in corners. DePauw's Brooke Shipley recorded nine saves, while Ruth Hanks had two for the Panthers.

On Friday, DePauw picked up a 2-1 win at Millsaps. The Majors dropped to 9-2 overall and 1-1 in the conference.

Stephanie Patton gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead at the 8:23 mark with an unassisted goal before Emelie Johansson wrapped up the scoring with just 2:54 remaining with an unassisted goal.

Millsaps outshot DePauw 10-8, while the Tigers held an 8-3 edge in corners. Brooke Shipley recorded seven saves in posting the shutout and Elizabeth Sooby had four for the Majors.

DePauw returns to action on Friday, October 10, when it hosts Hendrix at 8 p.m.
