Weatherford, Hudson capture middle school CC titles

Before the high school runners could take to the rain-soaked cross country course at South Putnam Tuesday night, the middle schoolers had their go at the 3K course. The results were similar to the high school meet, though, as Greencastle swept the individual and team titles.
In the girls' race, Greencastle's Colleen Weatherford outkicked Cloverdale's Amillia Nally to take the race in 12:21. On the boys' side, the Tiger Cubs' Tyler Hudson ran an 11:39, winning by 11 seconds.
The Lady Tiger Cubs totaled 38 points, edging South Putnam (44) and Cloverdale (48). North Putnam was fourth with 104. The GMS boys had a wider margin, defeating the Eagles 39-58. CMS was just behind with 59 and the Cougars were fourth with 71.
Weatherford's win was followed up by teammates Alex Stoffregan in fourth and Abigail Wilson in sixth. Kayla Cash captured 13th for the Tiger Cubs and Corrine Trigg was just behind in 14th.
For the Eagles, Mallory Glaze led the way in fifth, followed by Lyndsey Beasley in seventh. Kaelynn Cox placed ninth and Ariel Higgins and Madison Egold finished the scoring in 11th and 12th.
Nally's second-place was followed up by Bailey Stevens in third. Claudia Monnett was next for CMS in 10th. Sydney Shrum was 16th, followed by Riley Canfield in 17th.
Whitney Baker paced the Cougars at eighth place. Taylor Webster was next in 22nd and Cheyanne Elliott was 26th. Kaitlin Mindiola placed 38th, followed by Reanda Foltz in 39th.
After Hudson were several runners from other schools, but Greencastle's other four scorers were all in a pack. Erik Norlin was eighth and Alex Asbel was four seconds behind in ninth. Elija Brattain placed 10th and Alec Davis was 11th.
Evan Potts led the Eagles in fourth and Hunter Barr was next in fifth. Larry Hurst placed 12th and Collin Berry was 17th. Eliott Harris finished the scoring in 24th.
The Clovers were paced by second- and third-place finishes from Bret Brumfield and Ethan Maners, respectively. Nick Blundell came next in 15th. Rylan Mattocks was 21st, followed by Aaron Whitlock in 22nd.
Cougars Dalton Spear and Trenton Osborn were sixth and seventh. Sean Hinners came next at 18th, and Drew Bottorff was right behind in 19th. Ulysses Lewis closed out the scoring at 26th.
