Community support made event possible

Tuesday, October 14, 2008

To the Editor:

On behalf of the Greencastle Fire Department, I would like to thank the donors for the eighth annual open house event on Oct. 2. Your commitment to helping the Greencastle Fire Department in our community is sincerely appreciated.

Each year the Greencastle Fire Department hosts our open house event with the intention of educating both adults and children in fire prevention. Through our programs like this, we have seen many lives changed for the better.

This year's event was s huge success and we had record-breaking attendance. We awarded all the winners of the coloring, poster, poem and essay contests for Greencastle students ranging from pre-kindergarten to eighth grade.

We received several compliments about the quality of the prizes awarded and the gift bags we handed out to each child. This could not have been possible without your generous donations.

Everyone in attendance enjoyed great food, entertainment from Patches the Robot and education in fire prevention through our "smokehouse" experience. We had tours of the station and fire trucks, and many were even able to experience a live response to an alarm received during the event.

Overall, the event was a huge success and could not have been possible without you. Thank-you again for your generous support of our efforts to educate our community to protect lives and property.
