CMS downs Greencastle in volleyball

The Cloverdale 8th grade volleyball team defeated Greencastle Thursday night 25-14 and 25 -17.

The Clovers were led by Paige Gruener with 14 points and Justeena Wellington with nine points and four kills. Bradanne Toney had eight points and eight kills and Bristy Skiles had 14 assists with eight points.

The Clovers headed to the Speedway Invitational Saturday and took first place, defeating Speedway Clark Pleasant 25-14 and 25-21 and Beech Grove 25-7 and 25-19.

Overall, the Clovers started slow but came on strong, putting out impressive stats.

Overall the team was 90 percent on service, 87 percent passing and 88 percent attacking.

Combining stats for the day, the Clovers were led by Wellington with 27 points and four kills. Kayla Cheatham had 12 points. Toney collected 11 points and 16 kills.

Skiles had 14 points and 27 assists and Gruener added 10 points and 14 assists. Taylor Jones had five points.

"I am very proud of the team. The team works very hard in practice and it feels great to see them rewarded with wins. Winning the tourney really gives them a sense of accomplishment," said coach Traci Toney.
