South Putnam Junior High football split its matchups with Greencastle last Thursday.

The Eagles won the seventh grade matchup against Greencastle 14-0.

"The defense was once again outstanding and finished the season on a strong note. The coaches were very proud of their effort all season and hope that it can continue into next season," coach Nathan Mullis said.

On offense Anthony Hendricks recovered a fumble in the end zone for a touchdown and Sawyer Arnold had the other touchdown.

The seventh grade finished the season 8-1.

The Eagles lost the eighth grade game 30-22 to finish the season at 2-7.

Greencastle led 22-0 at halftime, but the Eagles made a big comeback that fell just short in the final minute.

"They played their best half of football out of the whole season and the coaches cannot say enough about how far these kids have come since the beginning of the season. They learned what it means to play as a team and we wish them the best of luck in the future," Mullis said.

The coaches also wished to thank all of the parents, the cheerleaders and the South Putnam administration for all of the help and support the teams have gotten this season.
