Cloverdale drops sectional tune up

Wednesday, October 15, 2008

CLOVERDALE -- The Cloverdale volleyball team hosted Speedway Monday night in their WCC finale. The Clovers fell to the Sparkplugs in four games, 25-19, 25-13, 22-25, 25-20.

It may have been a loss for the Clovers (15-10, 3-3 WCC), but Clover coach Kathy Moore thought it was a good match to have just a week before sectional.

"Tonight was a good warm up for sectionals," Moore said. "Speedway is a very good team and probably favored to win it this year. They use quick attacks which keeps the defense quessing.

"I felt that we played well at times and we dug up a lot of hard hits tonight. We need to work on being focused over a length of a match," she added.

Kaileigh Sparks led the Clovers with 12 points and four aces. Kristin McCammon, Allie Franklin and Elizabeth Cheatham each had six kills. Cheatham also led with 11 blocks.

Kayla Shepherd collected 30 digs, while Maria Skiles had 12 assists.

The Clovers also found out on Monday that they will be facing Monrovia in their opening sectional match. The match is slated for approximately 7:30 p.m. at Covenant Christian in Indianapolis.

"We were excited with the tournament draw and we hope that we will be peaking at the right time," Moore said.

The CHS JV won in three games, 12-25, 25-17, 15-11.

Cloverdale concludes the regular season on Thursday when it hosts Linton at 6 p.m.
