Richard D. "Buck" Riggle, 82, of Roachdale died Sunday, Nov. 2, 2008 at Hendricks Regional Health Hospital at Danville.
Mr. Riggle was born June 11, 1926 at Roachdale to Charles V. and Ethel Marie Dickerson Riggle.
He graduated from Roachdale High School in 1944. He later graduated from Worsham Mortuary School in Chicago.
After High School he served in the U.S. Navy on LST 288 in the Pacific Theater from 1944 to 1946. From 1950 to 1954 he was part owner of the Cities Service Station in Roachdale.
He also worked for the Town of Roachdale.
He worked at the Roachdale Post Office from 1954 to October 1981 when he retired.
He also operated Riggle Repair and Upholstery Shop in Roachdale from 1962 to 1981.
He was a member of Roachdale Presbyterian Church, Roachdale V.F.W. No. 3284, Roachdale Masonic Lodge, Parke County Low 12 Club, former member of the Roachdale Fire Dept. and Roachdale Lions Club.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Ford Riggle, whom he married on Sept 19, 1947 at Newport; four sons Charley (Phyllis) Riggle of Roachdale, Ron (Donna) Riggle of Rochester, David (Brigitte) Gatlin of Crawfordsville and Danny (Diane) Westbrook of Ft. Mill, S.C.; a daughter, Kathy (Gary) Westbrook Collings of Zionsville; 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, George (Verlena) Riggle of Richmond.
A son, Tom Gatlin and a sister, Ruby Brunst Byrd preceded him in death.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Servies & Morgan Funeral Home, Roachdale, with the Rev. Alan Small officiating. Calling will be Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m., with Masonic Memorial Services will be at 7:30 p.m.
Roachdale V.F.W. will conduct Military Honors at the graveside.
