Pirates sweep Tigers

The DePauw soccer teams were swept by Southwestern on Friday evening.

In men's action, Southwestern's Preston Hollis scored at 23:36 on an assist from Alex Keller to give the Pirates a 1-0 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference victory over DePauw.

DePauw dropped to 8-4-5 overall and 4-3-2 in the SCAC, while Southwestern improved to 9-9 overall and 7-2 in the conference.

Each team attempted 10 shots with DePauw holding a 4-3 edge in corners. Deniis Cladis and Ted Jacobi split time in goal with Cladis totaling one save and Jacobi two. Southwestern's Ryan Tasin recorded one save in posting the shutout.

DePauw hosts Trinity at 11 a.m. in the season finale on Sunday.

For the women, Southwestern's Casey Grier scored once in each half and led the Pirates to a 2-0 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference win over DePauw. The Tigers dropped to 5-11-2 overall and 3-5 in the SCAC, while Southwestern improved to 13-3-1 overall and 6-2 in the conference.

Grier's first score came just nine minutes into the contest with her insurance goal coming at 53:14.

The Pirates outshot DePauw 9-3 and and held a 2-0 edge in corners. DePauw's Lauren Palfrey totaled one save in goal, while Southwestern's Eryn Snyder and Katie Romero shared the shutout.

DePauw wraps up the 2008 season on Sunday when it hosts Trinity at 1 p.m.
