North Putnam schools honor local veterans

Roachdale Boy Scout Troop 67 performed a flag folding ceremony during a Veteran's Day program at North Putnam High and Middle Schools Tuesday. Members of the troop are Tylor Alford, Levi Fisher, Justin Nordmeyer, Jordan Sarr, Dakota Fulwinder, Austin Holder and Matt Dawson. Troop leader is Dan Alford.

ROACHDALE -- North Putnam Middle and High School students with family members in the military stood proudly as the high school band played the theme song from each branch of the United States military during a Veterans Day program at the school Tuesday.

Several members of the community attended the program put on by the North Putnam High School and Middle School. Band and choir members performed and students spoke about Veterans and their service to the country.

The Roachdale VFW Branch 3284 presented the flag during the opening of the program. Members Larry Vaught, Darrell Sandusky, Jim Mandleco, Jim Derringer and Leroy Miller stood with the flag as Raymond McCloud explained the meaning of the flag and the ceremony.

Students Josi Parent and Katie Welch each gave a presentation to the student body and visitors talking about veterans and what they mean.

The North Putnam High School band, led by Director John Pinson, presented a medley of patriotic standards from the Army, Navy, Marines, Coast Guard and Air Force. As each song was played students who had family members serving in that branch of the military stood along with Veterans. The band also played the national anthem and choir members from both the middle and high school performed with the band.

Bugle players with the band ended the program by playing taps.
