Mona M. Vontress, 76, died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008 in the home of her sister after a prolonged illness.
Mrs. Vontress was born Aug. 3, 1932 to Otis D. Wharff and Geneva E (Bir) Wharff. She attended St. Bernard Elementary and Crawfordsville High School. She married Clarence "Bud" Vontress on February 10, 1951 in Crawfordsville. They were married 54 years.
She was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Greencastle. She was a homemaker in Greencastle and raised her twin brother and sister after their parents passed away when they were young.
Survivors include two sisters, Carolyn Gilliland and Jayne Wharff, both of Crawfordsville and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bud, older sister Phyllis VanLaere and three younger brothers, Bernie, Wayne and John Francis Wharff.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday Nov. 25 at 11 a.m. at Boone-Hutcheson Cemetery. A funeral procession will leave Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home, 703 East Washington St., Greencastle at 10:45 a.m.
Mrs. Vontress requested donations to be made in her name to the Well Baby Clinic at Milligan Memorial Church, 802 Mill Street in Crawfordsville.
