Bonnie Bryan, left, Kayley Mathers, Samantha Tincher and Thursa Evens will be educating participants of a Cake Making 101 class.

Registration for the Cake Making 101 class ends at 3 p.m. today. Anyone interested is encouraged to call the Extension office at 653-8411.

The fee of $3 to cover cost of samples and handouts can be paid at the door.

The class will be at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday in the community room on the first floor of the Area 30 Career Center. Entrance is located at door five on the southeast side of the building.

It is open to the public, but was designed as a leader lesson for Putnam County Extension Homemakers. Participants will learn more about both the basic and not-so-basic techniques involved in making a variety of cakes.

Some topics to be covered are jellyrolls, specialty cup cakes, Bundt cakes, quick and easy decorating tips and more.

This is the second year Area 30 culinary students, taught by Mary Anne Birt, have partnered with Purdue Extension Service and local Extension Homemakers club to offer an educational culinary program.

In addition to Area 30 students, Melissa Archer, Bonnie Bryan, Jackie Baumann and Thursa Evens will give lessons.

Evens has many years of cake making experience and last year received the Women Chefs and Restaurateurs Golden Bowl Award for women who are inspiring in pastry arts. The French Culinary Institute sponsors it.
