The Greater Greencastle Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors is now accepting nominations for the 2008 "Citizen of the Year" Award. The award has been presented by the Chamber to some of Putnam County's finest since 1982.

The Chamber is seeking that special individual who is dedicated to the success of Putnam County to receive this prestigious award. The selection is based upon the degree to which the individual has made Putnam County a better community in which to live, work and raise a family.

The 2008 winner will succeed Charles (Chuck) Schroeder, who was the 2007 winner. Other previous winners have been Hazel Day Longden, the inaugural recipient in 1982, Hubert Clodfelter, Howard Williams, Bessie Rector, Mace Aker, Bobby G. Albright, Gerald E. Warren, David Barr, Jim Harris, Dr. James Johnson, Charles Chandler, Bob Evans, Julia, "Judy" Johnson, Jerald D. Calbert, Harold Spicer, Jinsie Bingham, Dave Young, Barbara Lane, Ellen Sedlack, Lynn Wilson, Denise Sigworth, Rachel Seipel Mike Rokicki, Joy Marley, Charles Miles, and Judge Sally Gray.

Nominees must be residents of Putnam County for five or more years and have given extended service to the county in more than one area.

Neither the nominees nor the individuals making the nominations have to be members of the Chamber of Commerce. Anyone wishing to make a nomination is encouraged to do so by the end of the day on Friday, Jan. 9, 2009.

Nomination forms can be obtained from the Chamber office or a plain letter sheet of paper may be used. Include the nominee's name, address and reason in detail for the nomination.

The Chamber also needs the name, address and contact number for the person or persons making the nomination. Entries may be mailed or hand delivered to the Chamber of Commerce office at 16 S. Jackson St., Greencastle.

They will not accept nominations over the phone by word of mouth or via e-mail.

The 2008 Citizen of the Year will be announced and presented at the Greater Greencastle Chamber of Commerce Annual Dinner on Saturday, January 31, 2009.
