I-70 accident victim dies

One of the victims involved in the multi-vehicle accident on Interstate-70 Tuesday has died.

According to a press release by Terre Haute Post Indiana State Police Public Information Officer Joe Watts, Alice Murdock, 80, Sullivan, died at Terre Haute Regional Hospital Thursday from injuries sustained in an accident in the westbound lane at the 30-mile marker of I-70 in Putnam County.

Murdock was a passenger in the front seat of a 2003 GMC Envoy driven by Lynne E. Phegley, 51, Carlisle, Ind., when the vehicle went out of control on the icy road and collided with two separate tractor-trailer semis and an ISP police cruiser.

Semi driver Bozhin T. Bozhinov, 39, Apopka, Fla., was treated at the scene for a head laceration by Putnam County EMS, while ISP Trooper Chad Hilton, 35, and Jerry Fraley, 50, Imperial, Mo., were uninjured during the accident.

According to the press release, Phegley, who sustained multiple fractures and internal injuries, remained hospitalized at Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis.
