Sheriff's Department

Several accidents caused by the ice storm, which hit the county last week, have been reported by the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.

Christopher Kelly, Terre Haute, was traveling north on U.S. 231 at 12:36 p.m. Dec. 21 when he approached a bridge and did not realize it was icy. Kelly lost control of his vehicle, struck both sides of the bridge before it came to rest against a guardrail on the west side. Substantial damage was reported to the front and down both sides of his vehicle. Both air bags deployed and no injuries were reported at the scene. There was an estimated $2,501 to $5,000 in damages. Higgins Wrecker Service towed the vehicle from the scene.

Fred Scott, Greencastle, was traveling south on Manhattan Road at 10:20 a.m. Dec. 22, when the tires dropped off the roadway and he overcorrected to the left. His vehicle slid out of control and struck a fence and tree. There was an estimated $1,001 to $2,500 in damages.

Robert Poynter, Greencastle, was traveling south on County Road 725 E at 7 p.m. Dec. 23, when he lost control of his vehicle at the intersection of U.S. 40 and C.R. 725. The vehicle left the roadway and rolled over in a creek. Curtis Garage towed the vehicle from the scene. There was an estimated $5,001 to $10,000 in damages.

Devon Scobee, Nappanee, was traveling west on U.S. 40 at 2 p.m. Dec. 23 when his vehicle lost traction on a hill, causing it to slide head on into a guardrail. Scobee received injuries to his face and his passenger complained of back and neck pain. Both were transported to Putnam County Hospital for observation. Steele's Wrecker Service towed the vehicle from the scene. There was an estimated $1,001 to $2,500 in damages.

Eddie Overshiner, Greencastle, was traveling on Cement Plant Road when he attempted to stop, but was unable due to icy road conditions. Overshiner's vehicle hit the rear of a vehicle driven by Ted Evans of Demotte. No injuries were reported at the scene. The accident occurred at 6:23 p.m. Dec. 23. There was an estimated $1,001 to $2,500 in damages.

Timothy Hamer, St. Louis, Mo., was traveling east on S.R. 240 at 9 p.m. Dec. 23, when he attempted to slow for a vehicle making a turn. His vehicle began sliding on the icy road causing it to strike a fence. There was an estimated $1,001 to $2,500 in damages.

Bernard Duncan, Poland, was traveling on U.S. 231 at approximately 3:01 a.m. Dec. 23, when his vehicle ended up in a ditch on the north side of the highway. Duncan was not with the vehicle when officers responded to the scene. He was later located walking towards the Kwik Mart at the corner of U.S. 231 and U.S. 40. Duncan first stated to officers he was not the driver of the truck, but was the passenger. He proceeded to tell officers the driver was an unknown male he met in Indianapolis who offered him a ride to his home in Poland. Duncan was returned to scene by the officers and following a small investigation, it was determined Duncan was the driver of the vehicle. Alcohol was detected on Duncan's breath. He was administered a portable breath test, which showed he was intoxicated over the legal limit. He was transported to the Putnam County Jail where he was given a certified chemical test. He was booked into the jail on charges of driving while intoxicated and public intoxication. Duncan later admitted to being the driver of the vehicle and consuming alcohol at a bar in Indianapolis. Steele's Wrecker Service towed the vehicle from the scene. There was an estimated $5,000 to $10,000 in damages.

Christy Beckham, Barnhart, Mo., was traveling west on I-70 at 11:40 a.m. Dec. 23, when she lost control of her vehicle due to the icy road conditions. Richard Drushal, Lakeville, Ohio, observed Beckham's vehicle sliding in front of him but was unable to stop due to the ice. Both vehicles collided. Drushal's vehicle was driven from the scene. Steele's Wrecker Service towed Beckham's vehicle from the scene. There was an estimated $1,001 to $2,500 in damages.

Deeanna Bridgewater, Mooresville, was traveling west on I-70 at 11:55 a.m. Dec. 23, when she approached stopped traffic due to another accident. Bridgewater was unable to stop due to the icy road conditions causing her vehicle to slide into a stopped vehicle driven by Raymond Vanover of Greenwood. Curtis's Wrecker Service towed Bridgewater's vehicle from the scene. There was an estimated $5,001 to $10,000 in damages.

William Kaiser, Milan, was traveling west on I-70 at 11:50 a.m. Dec. 23, when his vehicle hit a slick spot on the road causing it to slide off the road and into a flatbed truck, which was pulled onto the side of the road. When the deputy arrived, an EMT was in the process of transporting Kaiser and his passenger, Robert Branigan of Milan, to the hospital. Due to the severe storm, the deputy was unable to determine the extent of injuries. Curtis's Wrecker Service towed the vehicle from the scene. There was an estimated $10,001 to $25,000 in damages.

Susan Sompong, Gallatin, Tenn., was traveling west on U.S. 36 at 9:40 p.m. Dec. 23 when her vehicle ran off the right side of the road due to icy road conditions. The accident was not reported until 11:59 a.m. Dec. 24. Sompong's son-in-law was able to pull the vehicle from the ditch with a pick-up truck. There was an estimated $2,501 to $5,000 in damages.

Sharon Johnson, Cloverdale, was traveling on S.R. 243 South at 5:20 p.m. Dec. 24, when another vehicle forced her off the road. Johnson had stopped at a stop sign, entered into traffic and accelerated to avoid being hit by the second vehicle. It caused her vehicle to leave the road and hit a telephone pole and tree. No contact was made with the unknown vehicle. Johnson and her passenger were transported to Putnam County Hospital for treatment. Steele's Wrecker Service towed the vehicle from the scene. There was an estimated $1,001 to $2,500 in damages.

Suzanne Brown, Brazil, was traveling west on U.S. 40 at 8:10 a.m. Dec. 26 when she lost control of her vehicle due to the icy road conditions and struck an embankment. Seniour's Wrecker Service towed the vehicle from the scene. There was an estimated $5,001 to $10,000 in damages.

Pamela Moore, Brazil, was traveling west on U.S. 40 at 8:30 a.m. Dec. 26 when she attempted to stop for a previous accident. Her vehicle slid on the icy road conditions causing it to collide with a stopped vehicle driven by Nancy Marlow of Brazil. Seniour's Wrecker Service towed Moore's vehicle from the scene. Jerry's Wrecker Service towed Marlow's vehicle from the scene. There was an estimated $10,001 to $25,000 in damages.

Scott Wood, Brazil, was traveling west on U.S. 40 at 9:55 a.m. Dec. 26, when he lost control of his vehicle due to icy road conditions and struck a guardrail. Hoosier Wrecker Service towed the vehicle from the scene. There was an estimated $2,501 to $5,000 in damages.

Brandon Colbert, Hillsborough, Calif., was traveling north on S.R. 231 at 10:49 a.m. Saturday, when he was unable to stop due to icy road conditions causing him to collide with a stopped vehicle driven by Tamila Sawyer of Greencastle. Steele's Wrecker Service towed Colbert's vehicle from the scene. There was an estimated $2,501 to $5,000 in damages.

Brendon Schroeder, Greencastle, was traveling on County Road 25 South at 12:05 p.m. Saturday when he attempted to cross a bridge containing water. Schroeder was unable to stop for a vehicle driven by Jeffrey Weedling of Mooresville, waiting to cross the bridge. Weedling stated Schroeder was traveling too fast across the bridge and struck his vehicle. There was an estimated $1,001 to $2,500 in damages.

Hannah Dickey, Greencastle, was having her vehicle towed down County Road 250 E, when her steering wheel locked causing it to go into a ditch. Seniour's Wrecker Service towed the vehicle from the scene. There was an estimated $1,001 to $2,500 in damages.

Putnam County Jail

Bernard Duncan, 45, Poland, was booked into the Putnam County Jail at 4:28 a.m. Dec. 23 for operating while intoxicated and public intoxication.

Brett Stoots, 32, Indianapolis, was booked at 11 a.m. Dec. 23 for probation violation.

Christopher Dover, 28, Cloverdale, was booked at 1:03 p.m. Dec. 25 for disorderly conduct and battery with bodily injury.

Stacy Cole, 32, Cloverdale, was booked at 1:34 p.m. Dec. 25 for contempt of court.

Donald Sherman, 33, Quincy, was booked at 11:09 p.m. Dec. 26 for public intoxication and identity deception.

Jamie Lucas, 33, Greencastle, was booked at 11:40 p.m. Dec. 26 for operating while intoxicated and possession of marijuana with a prior.

Kyle McIntosh, 19, Spencer, was booked at 1:16 a.m. Dec. 27 for operating while intoxicated public intoxication, possession of marijuana and trafficking with an inmate.

Leila Wood, 39, Greencastle, was booked at 3:48 a.m. Dec. 27 for operating while intoxicated.

Marvin Bryson, 39, Indianapolis, was booked at 2:13 p.m. Dec. 27 for violation of home detention.

Sheila Bain, 40, Cloverdale, was booked at 7:49 p.m. Dec. 27 for check deception.

Mitch Zoll, 24, Greencastle, was booked at 10:18 p.m. Dec. 27 for operating while intoxicated.

Andrew Johnston, 21, Greencastle, was booked at 3:59 a.m. Dec. 28 for public intoxication and resisting law enforcement.
