South Putnam, Cloverdale compete in the Eagle 5-way

The wrestling squads from South Putnam and Cloverdale competed in the South Putnam Eagle 5-way meet Friday. Cloverdale ended the day with a 3-1 record, while the host Eagles closed their day with a record of 2-2.

The Clovers had two individual champions on the day. Eldin Hesslegrave (103) and Lee Secrest (160) finished the day with 4-0 records for Cloverdale.

In addition to Hesselgrave and Secrest, Cloverdale had seven wrestlers finish the day with a record of 3-1. Josh Batchelor, Zack Couse, Matt Hall, Donnie Helterbrand, Brittany Hughes, Joe McHugh and Zach Waycott were those wrestlers.

Cloverdale's Tyler Carrell, Jeff Couse, James Green and Levi Haltom all went 2-2, while Kody Kohler was 1-3 and Braxtyn Sinclair was 0-1.

The Clovers defeated Blue River Valley, South Putnam and Turkey Run, with their only loss coming at the hands of eventual tournament winner Fountain Central.

Chris Hurst (heavyweight) was South Putnam's only individual champion on the day as he posted a 4-0 record. Antonio Hernandez (145) and Logan Kinney (152) had 3-1 records, while Matt Ballew (130), Scott Daniels (135), Dylan Terry (140), Jake Girton (189) and Avery Dotson (215) all went 2-2 on the day.

Dakota Ramey (125) and Jesse Gardner (160) were 1-3 on the day, with Kolton Nelson and Robbie Walters were 1-1. Andrew Waters (140) and Nelson were 0-2 in junior varsity action, with Jermane Wells posting a 0-1 record.

Cloverdale and South Putnam will next compete in the Putnam County Meet Thursday held at Cloverdale at 5 p.m.
