Three Clovers earn top spot at South Vermillion
CLINTON -- The Cloverdale high school wrestling team traveled to South Vermillion last Saturday in the Wildcat's eight team invitational.
The Clovers had a very strong showing and finished the day in second place, just behind the host South Vermillion. The Clovers also had three wrestlers finish in first place, four in second, and three in third.
Among the teams the Clovers beat were North Vermillion, West Vigo, Sullivan, Rockville, Turkey Run, and Covington.
The three wrestlers finishing in first place were Eldin Hesselgrave at the 103 weight class with a 3-0 record. At 112, Shawn Shipp won with a record of 3-0 and Lee Secrest was also 3-0 and got first place at 160.
Second place finishers were Donnie Helterbrand at the 130 pound weight class, Jeff Couse at 135 and Matt Hall in the 171 weight class. Scott Mayhew got second at the 189 pound class. All wrestlers that finished in second had a record of 2-1.
Third place finishers included James Green at 125, Zach Waycott at 140 and and Levi Haltom at 215, all with records of 3-1.
The Clovers had nobody place in fourth place, but did have two finish in fifth place. Joe McHugh was 2-2 at 145. Josh Batchelor was 2-2 also at Hwt.
And the lone sixth place finisher was Tyler Carroll at the 112 weight class.
