Robert Watson Koenig, 74, of Greencastle died Monday, Jan. 26, 2009 at his residence.
Born Oct. 7, 1934 in Lafayette, he was the son of Arthur E. and Peggy King Koenig. He was a 1951 graduate of West Lafayette High School and received a degree in forestry from Purdue University in 1955. He married Carol Joann Koenig on Aug. 29, 1955 and she survives.
Mr. Koenig had worked with the State of Indiana Forestry from March 1962 until his retirement in 1997. After retirement, he was self-employed, consulting in forestry for over 10 years. He was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, has been with the RC & D Sycamore Trails since 1990, a former JC member and in Indiana Forestry Woodland Owners Association since 1981.
Survivors include his wife, son Tom E. Koenig of Florida, daughter Lisa Ellis and husband Ron of Greencastle, sister Gretchen Aerstin and husband Frank of Sanford, Mich., granddaughters Angela Moore and husband David of Greencastle and Jessica Ferran and husband Nick of Cloverdale and four great-grandchildren, Kelsey, Sydney, Samuel and Adlynn Moore.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Art Koenig in Aug. of 2008.
A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home with Fr. Stephen Jarrell officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until time of service on Friday.
