Nadean "Dean" Arden Sillery

Nadean "Dean" Arden Sillery, 87, Greencastle, died Thursday, Feb. 19, 2009, at the Mill Pond Health Campus.

Born July 1, 1921 in Putnam County, he was the son of Enoch Arden and Sylvia (Disbrow) Sillery.

He was a graduate of Greencastle High School class of 1940. He married Billie K. Harmon June 23, 1963 and she survives.

Mr. Sillery retired from the State Highway Department after having worked 16 years as a truck driver. He had previously been a produce manager with the A & P Grocery in Greencastle for 26 years and a short order cook at the Monon Grill and other local restaurants.

He was an avid gardener and fisherman. He was a member and former deacon of the First Baptist Church.

Mr. Sillery was a World War II army veteran, serving in Tunisia, Sicily, Naples, Rome, Rhineland, southern France, and central Europe. He is a lifetime member of the 3rd Division Anti-tank Company, American Legion; and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include his wife, Billie; a sister, Louise Downs of Dana; a brother, Leroy "Roy" Sillery and wife Florence of Reelsville; and several nieces and nephews.

His parents; three brothers, Charles "Pat", Russell and Royal Dale Sillery; and a sister, Edna Gordon preceded him in death.

Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home with the Revs. Stephen Blaydes and Jimmy Collins officiating. Burial will be in the Fillmore Cemetery with military rites.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until time of service Tuesday.
