Marjorie E. Soots, 89, of Greencastle, formerly of Indianapolis, died Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009 at The Waters of Greencastle.
Born May 27, 1919 in Montgomery, Ala., she was the daughter of Floyd Aaron and Amanda Elizabeth Gorrell Gibbs. She was a 1937 graduate of Avon High School, also graduating from Central Business College.
Mrs. Soots had been a home health volunteer from 1975 until 1979 and secretary for Creative Writers of Montgomery from 1979 until 1981. She was also a dietary employee for Putnam County Hospital. She was a member of the Civil War Roundtable of Greencastle, the First Baptist Church of Greencastle and a former member of the Lynhurst Baptist Church in Indianapolis.
She is survived by her daughter Barbara Huff of Greencastle; sons David Soots of Coatesville and Keith Soots of Greencastle; six grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ralph E. Soots and brother William H. Gibbs.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Chandler-Hays Funeral home with calling from 1 p.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in New Maysville Cemetery.
