EMT classes set

Putnam County Operation Life, in cooperation with Area 30 Career Center, is accepting applications for its upcoming Spring/Summer 2009 Emergency Medical Technician Basic Course.

The cost of the course is $650 and includes all associated fees. A payment plan is available upon request.

The course is scheduled to begin on March 23 and end July 15.

Classes will be held Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Operation Life Training Room in Greencastle.

All students must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or G.E.D. Students who will be 18 years old within six months of completing the course may enroll.

Prior to admission to the course, students must hold a current Healthcare Provider CPR Certification.

If they are not currently CPR certified, two courses to afford the opportunity to meet this requirement will held prior to the beginning of the EMT course.

Emergency Medical Training is fast paced and dynamic. EMT training requires a serious commitment and shouldn't be entered lightly.

Students will be exposed to a variety of topics including airway management, pharmacology, human anatomy, patient assessment, cardiac care and defibrillation, OB/GYN and ambulance operations.

This course also affords students clinical rotations on Operation Life 911 Advanced Life Support Ambulances and rotations in the Putnam County Hospital Emergency Department.

EMT training is a great first step toward a rewarding and exciting career in public safety and the healthcare industry.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be eligible to apply and test for both Indiana and National Registry certification as an EMT-Basic.

Upon becoming certified students would be eligible to seek employment as an EMT or seek advanced EMS training.

Students may also be eligible to apply the training received for 7.5 credit hours of credit at Ivy Tech Community College toward an A.A.S in Paramedic Science.

Applications may be obtained in person at the Putnam County Operation Life business office located at 513 S. Bloomington Street in Greencastle between the hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Applications must be submitted no later than 5 p.m. on March 18.
