Eagles battle with conference foes

The South Putnam Junior High swim teams competed in a series of swim meets recently.

Last Thursday, the Eagle boys fell to Speedway 89-56, while the girls were defeated 94-85.

Picking up wins for the girls were Emily Parker in the 200-yard freestyle (3:02.58) and the 100-yard backstroke 1:34.46, Josie Farmer in the 50-yard freestyle (32.78) and the 100-yard freestyle (1:16.92) and Lyndsie Beasley in diving (79.90).

Morgan Deszi, Kaelynn Cox, Farmer and Haley Bain teamed up to win the 200-yard freestyle relay in 2:24.02

For the boys, Tayler Arnold won the 50-yard freestyle (29.34) and the 100-yard backstroke (1:15.44), Tyler Neumann took honors in diving (82.00), John McCammack won the 50-yard butterfly (35.21) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:30.61).

The 200-yard medley relay team of Arnold, McCammack, Zeke Evens and Ben Albright won in a time of 2:32.22.

On March 9, South Putnam battled West Vigo with the girls winning 115-65, with the boys losing 103-73.

Getting wins for South Putnam were Deszi in the 200-yard freestyle (3:12), Farmer in the 50-yard freestyle (:33), Olivia Arnold in the 50-yard butterfly (:48), Parker in the 100-yard backstroke (1:38) and Alyssa Arnold in the 100-yard breaststroke (N/T). Siera Heim set a record in the diving event with 106.4 total points.

The 200-yard medley relay team of Clair Perry, Alyssa Arnold, Cox and Bain won in a time of 3:17. Arnold, Cox, Farmer and Bain combined to win the 200-yard freestyle relay in 2:27.

Arnold and McCammack led the boys' effort with two individual wins on the night. Arnold won the 50-yard freestyle (:29) and the 100-yard backstroke (1:13). McCammack captured the 50-yard butterfly (:35) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:03). Albright won the 100-yard freestyle (1:25).

The 200-yard medley relay team of Arnold, McCammack, Evens and Albright won in 2:34, while Arnold Neumann, Albright and McCammack won the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 2:13.

South Putnam encountered the Cadets of Cascade back on March 2, with both teams suffering defeats. The girls fell 138-47, while the boys lost 112-60.

The boys' team won the 200-yard medley relay for its single win of the event. The team of Arnold, McCammack, Albright and Evens won with a time of 2:33.95.

Hiem accounted for the girls' lone win as she won the diving event with a dive total of 85.40.

Both South Putnam swim teams placed third at the Putnam County Meet Wednesday.
