Eagles seize county title

The South Putnam Junior High wrestling team rebounded to win the Putnam County Championship Wednesday. The Eagles scored 51 points to edge GMS by three.

The South Putnam Eagles Junior High wrestling team scored 51 points to capture the Putnam County Championship Wednesday. Greencastle placed second with 48 points.

The Eagles had seven grapplers earn individual championships on the night. They were Nick Owen, Klayton Vittetow, J.T. Franklin, Zane Crosby, Sam Sloan, Brandon Smith, Tanner Thompson and Jacob Williams.

South Putnam's Joe Waters, Evan Potts, Marcus Skinner, Rudy Harris and Morgan Grundlock placed second, with Collin Berry, Trevor Piersall, Rhaine Cluggish and Ryan Chestnut came up with third place finishes.

Ian Zeffel and Clayton Spencer finished the evening with fourth place finishes.

Greencastle also had seven wrestlers earn first place honors.

Nick Pingelton, Kody Collins, Tyler Scott, Tyler Hudson, Carter Lewis, Jake Rickenbaugh and Jorden Froderman accounted for the top finishes.

Hunter Smith, Kellan Alspaugh, Quincy Hayes, Cody Mundy, Blaine Fenwick and Dustin Williams placed second, while Tanner Fenwick, James Brown and Ethan Purdue ended the night with third place finishes. Tanner Wood logged a fourth place finish.

In B-team results Brandon Gillespie and Zeb Rumley earned first place finishes for GMS, with Riley Jayne and Clint Byrd locking up second place finishes and Dylan Price and Devin Mooney placing third.
