Farmers to discuss concerns

Wednesday, April 1, 2009

The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and the Putnam County Soil and Water Conservation District (PCSWCD) invites the farming community to attend a meeting to discuss the local resource concerns of Putnam County in relationship to Environmental Quality Incentives Program (QUIP) and Wildlife Habitat Incentives Program (WHIP) programming.

In addition to this, the NRCS and PCSWCD will provide an update on last year's accomplishments through EQIP and WHIP, and provide information on the watersheds within the county.

The meeting will be held in the USDA, Greencastle Field Office, and conference room on April 7 at 7 p.m. Pizza and drinks will be provided. The last day to make a reservation to attend the meeting will be April 3. The office can be reached at 653-5716, ext. 3.

There has also been an extension for the Floodplain Easement Program sign-up. The program sign-up has been extended two weeks to April 10. Interest and applications for this program has been very high in Indiana, and the extension will provide ample time to rank and submit applications for all interested landowners.

Interested persons should contact the NRCS office at 765-653-5716 x3 to make an appointment to sign-up for this program.
