Dance the night away

Wednesday, April 8, 2009

The Greencastle High School Dance-a-thon is set for April 11 from 6 p.m. to midnight in McAnally Center. This event is open to the public with proceeds going to Relay For Life.

The contest is for couples and cost is $20 per pair. Spectators are welcome and will be charged $5 at the door. A school student ID must be presented, if you not registered for the event. Couples should purchase tickets ahead of time.

Registration will take place during lunch hours at the high school.

All couples will dance for 50 minutes and have a 10-minute rest every hour. Refreshments will be available to the dancers at no cost and can be purchased by those attending, but not taking part in the contest.

At the end of six hours, if there is more than one couple remaining, a dance competition will ensue. Judges will watch the remaining couples and choose the most talented. The winning couple will receive a $200 cash prize.

Alternative entertainment will also be provided. Games around the top of McAnally (similar to post-prom style) will be free and available to all who attend. Guest performance artists may also appear.

Luminarias will be available for purchase at the dance-a-thon. They will be lit during the Putnam County Relay for Life on April 25 and 26 at DePauw University's Blackstock Stadium.

  • The price has been cut in half to $5 per person to anyone who is interested. Please sign up people, its for a good cause and how often do you get a chance for an easy $200?
