Special Olympics receives a helping hand
Putnam County emergency workers pounded the basketball court this weekend in a countywide tournament to raise money for Special Olympics.
Five man teams from Greencastle Police, Putnam County Sheriffs Department (road and jail), Indiana State Police, Greencastle Fire Department, Madison Township Fire Department, Cloverdale Fire and Roachdale Volunteer Fire Department played full court, five-on-five basketball.
Over two days, the teams battled each other in close games. The Putnam County Sheriff's jail team came out the winner with the PC Sheriff's road team coming in second. The Indiana State Police team placed third.
Cost to attend the games was a canned good. The group gathered a vanload of food items that were delivered to the Putnam County Food Pantry at the Senior Center Monday afternoon.
Bob Campbell with the Greencastle Fire Department and Wilson put the tourney together.
"Everybody had a really good team. All the money we raised went to Special Olympics here in Putnam County. It was a good two days, just long," said Wilson smiling.
