On Thursday at 7:30 p.m., the DePauw Performing Arts Series will present the Koresh Dance Company in Moore Theatre in the Green Center for the Performing Arts.

Under the direction of founder and Artistic Director Ronen Koresh, the Koresh Company delivers to audiences an exciting blend of ballet, jazz and modern dance.

Founded in 1991 by Israeli born choreographer Koresh, the company has become one of the most sought-after dance troupes in the United States.

Known for their highly energized style, which some have described as "in your face," Ronen Koresh and company members have created over 50 original dance pieces in the nearly two decades of their existence.

In addition, the troupe has also performed pieces by such notable guest choreographers as Hector Vega and Donald Byrd, as well as Brian Sanders, formerly of Momix.

Fort the DePauw performance Koresh will present two pieces.

"Looking Back: the Music of the 40's and 50's" is one of the company's most popular and accessible pieces which premiered in 2006.

Choreographed by Ronen Koresh, the piece makes use of mid-twentieth century American pop music by singers and composers such as Louis Armstrong, Billie Holliday, Ella Fitzgerald, Bennie Goodman, Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley and Nat King Cole.

The company will also perform parts of their newest piece, "e-vo-lu-tion," a work still in progress which will officially premiere in its entirety in the company's hometown of Philadelphia beginning a week after the DePauw performance on April 30 and running through May 3.

The Koresh Dance Company last appeared at DePauw in November of 2005 at which time they performed another work-in-progress, "Standing in Tears," which was enthusiastically received by the full house in Moore Theatre.

"Standing in Tears" immediately went on to a successful run in New York City and since has become a staple in the Koresh repertoire.

The performance by Koresh Dance Company will be the final event in the 2008-09 DePauw Performing Arts Series, and like all PAS events is free and open to the public.

Seating in Moore Theatre for the event will be on a first-come-first-seated basis.
