The Putnam County 4-H Horse & Pony Judging Team had a successful season.

The team began meeting weekly in October and continued through the first of May preparing for competitions this spring.

The first competition took place March 29 in Romney, where the senior team placed fourth.

April 18, the teams competed in the area contest, hosted by Monroe County, where the Junior and Senior teams both won their divisions.

Coached by Lisa Pitts and assisted by My Gilley, senior team members are Shawnee Erwin (Greencastle), Heather Nipper (Roachdale) and Hannah Ramey (Cloverdale).

Junior team members are Emily Gilley (Fillmore), Elizabeth Stanley (Coatsville) and Morgan Sanford (Greencastle).

Contestants were also ranked individually at the area contest. In the junior division Gilley was first overall and in the senior division, Nipper placed third and Erwin placed fourth.

The first place finish for each team qualified them to compete at the State Horse & Pony Judging Contest in Danville on May 2, where the senior team placed fifth and the junior team placed sixth.
