Eagles overtake Speedway

SPEEDWAY -- The South Putnam High School softball team came from behind Tuesday and defeated Speedway 4-2, capping off a perfect West Central Conference season.

Speedway was up 2-1 going into the last frame of the evening and the Lady Eagles scored three runs and held off the Lady Sparkplugs in the bottom half of the frame.

Brooke Boetjer led South Putnam's offense, going 3-for-4, scoring a run and had an RBI as well. Alex Boyce also went 2-for-3 while Sarah Burnham scored two runs for the Lady Eagles.

Burnham was the winning pitcher for the team, fanning six batters while allowing seven hits.

On Monday, the Lady Eagles blanked the Sparkplugs 6-0.

Emily Dabkowski was 3-for-3 and scored two runs for the Eagles, while Oceaia Boetjer was 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Krystal Welch went 2-for-4 and Brooke Boetjer added three RBIs.

Boetjer was the winning pitcher, throwing a complete game four-hitter. She also collected an impressive 15 strikeouts on the night.
