Freda E. Minkler

Freda E. Minkler, 86, of Greencastle, formerly of Poland, died Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at the Millpond Health Campus.

Born Sept. 22, 1922 in Putnam County, she was the daughter of Earl and Lela Arnold Cash. She was a 1940 graduate of Fillmore High School. She married Wayne Robert Nelson in April 1941, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 23, 1970. She married George W. Minkler on June 9, 1973, and he preceded her in death on Oct. 13, 2007.

Mrs. Minkler had been a homemaker and had worked at the Angwell Curtain Factory, Murphy's 5 & 10 and Castle Craft Jewelry. She was a member of the Big Walnut Baptist Church and a charter member of the Four Seasons Club.

Survivors include a son, Gerald W. Nelson and wife Bev of Greencastle; three daughters, Carolyne Sharp and husband Gerald "Bud" of Greencastle, Sharon Dunn and husband Rex of Greencastle and Diane Osborne and husband Gary of Crystal River, Fla.; a stepson, Bob Minkler of Alabama; two brothers, Verlin Cash and wife Lois of Greencastle and Russell Cash of Greencastle; a sister, Darlene Brattain and husband Ray of Greencastle; a sister-in-law, Mary Cash of Greencastle; 17 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; a sister, Betty Jordan; brother, Donald Cash; a grandchild; two great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday at the Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home at 4 N. Percy Julian Dr. with grandson Gary Clark officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery.

Calling will be Thursday from 11 a.m. until time of service.
