A Danville man was arrested and booked into the Putnam County Jail on alcohol related charges following an accident early Thursday morning.

Joseph Koehl, 25, was traveling east on US 36 at 12:19 a.m., when he attempted to avoid hitting a deer in the roadway. Koehl's vehicle struck the left-side guardrail.

While he was walking to get cell phone service to dial 911, a second vehicle struck Koehl's car. Rodney McMahon, no city listed, was traveling east on 36 and did not see Koehl's vehicle due to its emergency light not working from the accident.

The vehicle accident report stated Koehl smelled of alcohol and was given a field sobriety test. He was transported to the jail, where he blew a .14 on a certified test.

Koehl was booked at 2:09 a.m. for operating a vehicle while intoxicated and public intoxication.
