James William "Jim" Parrish, 89, died July 20, 2009.

He was born April 9, 1920 in Spencer to Anne Evelyn Carpenter-Parrish-Rapp-York and Walter Lee Parrish. He was the oldest of seven children.

Mr. Parrish grew up in Greencastle, and on Feb. 17, 1942, at the age of 22, joined the Army and was part of the ground forces. He was stationed in Ogden, Utah as an MP, where he met his wife of 66 years Violet S. Hildre. They were married October 7, 1943.

In 1945 he was sent overseas to serve in Germany. Once discharged from the service, they moved to Indiana, where he worked 35 yrs for J. W. Holliday Steel. He enjoyed baseball and worked part-time at Victory Field.

Jim was very dedicated to family, friends, church, and was a great historian. He will be sorely missed.

Siblings Margaret, Betty, Ora, and Frances preceded him in death. He is survived by Cassell Gene Parrish and wife Norma of Indianapolis and Shirley Games and husband Kenneth of Bainbridge.

Jim and Vi had 5 children: Carol (David) Miller, Dennis (Karen) Parrish, Debra (Alexander) Allen, James (Cathy) Parrish and Jayne (Danny) Parrish. They have 15 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren.

Celebration of life service will be held Friday, July 24, 2009 at Lynhurst Neighborhood Funeral Home, 1202 S. Lynhurst Dr. Indianapolis with visitation there on Thursday July 23, from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will follow at Lincoln Memorial Gardens, Zionsville, Indiana.
