GREENCASTLE -- The Putnam County Board of Realtors held its annual dinner and meeting at Windy Hill Country Club on Aug. 6.

Over 60 members and guests attended the event, which culminated in the announcement of the realtor and affiliate of the year. Each year the local Association of Realtors takes nominations from its membership for a local realtor of the year candidate. The local winner then goes on to compete for the state realtor of the year award.

Board President Suzy Schneider announced that Bonnie Hanlon, of F.C. Tucker/Schneider Realty, was the 2009 realtor of the year. Hanlon has been in real estate for 17 years, and has been an association board member and officer in the past.

Hanlon is active in many local community organizations including Tri-Kappa Sorority, the Greater Greencastle Chamber of Commerce and Rotary. She is also treasurer for the Putnam County Board of Aviation.

She and her husband Keith own and operate Classic Flooring in Greencastle. When she isn't selling real estate or helping at one of her other "jobs," Hanlon is busy taking classes in pursuit of a nursing degree.

The Local Association also recognizes a local affilate of the year. An affiliate member is one who is not a "realtor," but works in some business connected to the real estate profession. Many are from banks, mortgage lenders, credit unions, insurance agencies, title companies and inspection companies.

This year's award winner was Debra Canal of Royal Title Services, Greencastle office. Canal started her career in banking in 1975, later going to work in the title insurance business. She has worked at Royal Title Services for 13 years, and is considered a loyal and dedicated team member by her coworkers.

Canal has donated time and resources to several local realtor functions, and frequently attends monthly meetings, luncheons and Board sponsored events.

The Putnam County Board of realtors would like to congratulate both of these valued members on their awards.
