City not offering testing

Local residents are being warned that notes left on their doors offering a gift are not from city or county offices.

According to Linda Huber, executive assistant to Greencastle Mayor Sue Murray, the mayor's office recently "received a call from a citizen who found a sticky note like UPS uses on her front door that said something like, 'Sorry we missed you. We have a gift for you.'"

The resident called the phone number on the note, Huber said, and was told someone would come by her house to test her water.

The phone number listed on the note was (317) 780-1568. The resident hung up when she was told someone would be coming to her home.

"I checked with the clerk-treasurer's office and they were not advised anyone was canvassing," Huber said. "I talked to the utility office and George Russell, and they had not received any calls about it, either from a citizen or the company."

Murray stressed that the city of Greencastle does not leave offers to test water.
