Putnam County Sheriff's Department

Motorists falling asleep at the wheel caused two single-vehicle accidents recently.

Charles Orlea of Rockville was traveling south on US 231 at 2:36 a.m. Aug. 5, when his vehicle left the roadway and struck a guardrail. Jerry's Wrecker Service towed the vehicle from the scene. There was an estimated $1,001 to $2,500 in damages.

Kara Sue Casey of Coatesville was traveling west on US 36 near Bainbridge at 4 a.m. Sunday, when her vehicle left the roadway and struck a fence. Minks Wrecker Service towed the vehicle from the scene. There was an estimated $1,001 to $2,500 in damages.

The accident reports stated Orlea and Casey had fallen asleep at the time of the crashes.

Tamara McCune of Quincy was traveling on SR 42 near Cloverdale at 6:55 a.m. Friday, when her vehicle left the roadway. McCune told investigating officers she didn't remember why her vehicle left the roadway. McCune and her son were transported to Putnam County Hospital for evaluation. Steele's Wrecker Service towed the vehicle from the scene. There was an estimated $2,501 to $5,000 in damages.

Patricia Perkins of Greencastle was stopped on SR 240 waiting to turn left into a driveway, when a vehicle driven by Brandon Watson struck the driver's side of her vehicle and pushed it into a power pole.

Watson, of Greencastle, was unable to stop in time after topping a hill. Watson swerved into the opposite lane, when he struck Perkins' vehicle. The accident occurred at 5:14 p.m. Friday.

Jerry's Wrecker Service towed Watson's vehicle from the scene. Minks Wrecker Service towed Perkin's vehicle from the scene. There was an estimated $2,501 to $5,000 in damages.

Putnam County Jail

Jacob Handlon, 18, Greencastle, was booked into the Putnam County Jail at 12:49 a.m. Friday for violation of home detention.

Jeremiah Denger, 22, Spencer, was booked at 3:06 a.m. Friday for reckless possession of paraphernalia and possession of marijuana.

Joseph Boyd, 55, Greencastle, was booked at 6 p.m. Friday for public intoxication, violation of probation and operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

Dana Couch, 45, Cloverdale, was booked at 11:20 p.m. Friday for violation of home detention.

Robert Heyen, 31, West Terre Haute, was booked at 3:47 a.m. Saturday for possession of methamphetamine, a controlled substance and possession or use of legend drug or precursor.

Michael Bain, 23, Cloverdale, was booked at 1:52 p.m. Saturday for petition to revoke probation.

Nicholas Owens, 18, Bainbridge, was booked at 5:48 p.m. Saturday for possession of alcohol by a minor and probation violation.

Gregory Moore, 27, Center Point, was booked at 8:06 a.m. Tuesday for disorderly conduct.

Greencastle Fire Department

Crews were dispatched to 400 S. Locust St., at 6:12 p.m. Friday for an alarm. They were back in service at 6:30 p.m.

Crews were dispatched to 210 N. Indiana St., at 9:43 p.m. Friday for a lift assist. They were back in service at 10:37 p.m.

Crews were dispatched to 210 N. Indiana St., at 10:12 p.m. Saturday for a lift assist. They were back in service at 10:38 p.m.

Crews were dispatched to 1811 E. Rangeline Road at 2:03 p.m. Sunday for a motorcycle accident with injury. They were back in service at 2:41 p.m.

Crews were dispatched to 1014 Mill Pond Lane at 5:25 p.m. Sunday for a medical assist. They were back in service at 5:33 p.m.

Crews were dispatched to 1002 Barrington Drive at 5:34 p.m. Sunday for a medical assist. They were back in service at 5:52 p.m.

Crews were dispatched to 309 Greenwood Ave. at 4:46 p.m. Monday for a carbon monoxide investigation. They were back in service at 5:22 p.m.

Greencastle Police Department

The following tickets were issued by the Greencastle Police Department:

Barry Nichols, 44, Coatesville, was stopped on SR 240E and Calbert Way at 12:12 a.m. Tuesday and ticketed for driving while suspended.

Ross Oliver, 18, Roachdale, was stopped on Indianapolis Road at 8:40 p.m. Monday for adjustment to prevent excess fumes or smoke.

Kevin Sunderland, 42, Anderson, was stopped on North Jackson Street at 9:05 p.m. Monday and ticketed for driving while suspended.

Constance "Connie" Grimsley, 45, Greencastle, was stopped at Indianapolis Road and 10th Street and ticketed for driving while suspended.
